Aes Dana
www.myspace.com/aesdana
( ;D --> Aes Dana is the name of the French ambient music formation of Vincent Villuis and Sunbeam (aka Mahiane). Born from the meeting of Vincent Villuis, former member of goa chill band Asura, and Sunbeam (aka Mahiane) who spins English progressive vinyls, Aes Dana stands as a coherent fusion of both styles. They bring out deep sounds rooted in the psychedelic tradition, in a fluid down tempo morning trance. Both musicians tend to create evocative sound textures, opening as a travelling over their analogical dreams. Short tales made of samples and waves, energised by tribal beats. Soundtrack for the early party letting time for the moon and the tempo to set, or for afters to slow down the nocturnal excesses and celebrate the return of the Sun. Aes dana's music is to be enjoyed between the veils.)

( ;D --> Tristesse Contemporaine is a Parisian trio whose members Narumi, Léo and Maik hail from Tokyo, Stockholm and East London respectively, and before hooking up with Pilooski their their only musical output to date had surfaced via Danton Eeprom’s Foundation Records imprint and an appearance on a Collete mix CD. Seemingly all three have dabbled in music in various shapes and forms before meeting and deciding to commence the Tristesse Contemporaine journey, quoting Talking Heads, Young Marble Giant and The Cure as inspiration for their sound. Their self titled debut album – produced in its entirety by Pilooski – is due out next month, and comes wrapped in all sorts of press release conjured mysticism, with the label claiming the band disappeared for a week in July last year after boarding a flight bound for New York, with the trio unable to explain their absence when found wandering at dawn on the launch base of the European Space Agency.)
( ;D --> 20th July 2011. It was at Heathrow airport that the three members of the group Tristesse Contemporaine disappeared without a trace. After boarding flight 671 in Paris Charles De Gaulle, they had a stopover in London before arriving in New York where they were to give a concert that night. Very soon the airline noticed they were missing and called the police who immediately started a search. The only clues they had were a few biographical details provided by their record company :
“Tristesse Contemporaine is a Parisian trio:
- Narumi was born in Tokyo, she began playing the piano at the age of 3 before entering the academy at 17. She started an all girl punk band at high school and covered songs by Staline (a famous Japanese band) and The Cure. As a fan of Godard and La Nouvelle Vague, Narumi came to Paris in 1994 to learn the French language and study fashion. She has worked for the music orientated media and for the Japanese gallery Poetry of Sex, as well as taking part in bands Suburbia (with Marc Collin), aswefall (with Léo Hellden) and Telepopmusik. It was on tour with the latter that she met Maik the singer. Screamadelica by Primal Scream is her favourite album.
- Léo Hellden grew up in the suburbs of Stockholm and was focused on a career as a hockey player before he started playing guitar at the age of 18. Three years later he became the guitarist of Jay Jay Johanson and recorded three albums (Tatoo, Poison, Antenna). On his way to London, he met a French woman and moved to Paris where he started aswefall with Clément, as well as studying economics. Léo often quotes Robin Guthrie from the Cocteau Twins as a decisive influence.
- Maik is from East London where his Jamaican family still live today. He is a fan of hip hop and started writing words after discovering Leonard Cohen (Maik hopes to equal him before he is 70). In the mid 90’s, he became the singer of Earthling after answering an advertisement in The NME. He recorded three albums including the cult trip hop album Radar. He took part in a project called Cuba, a group signed to 4AD, but the apocalyptic touring got the better of him. A French woman saved him and he followed her to Paris where he said : “If I had stayed in England, I would have died.”
Through friendship and compatibility, Narumi, Léo and Maik decided to start a band in 2009. They soon needed to record in order to back up their spontaneous ideas, their imagination and their powerful drafts. The demos resulting from their recording sessions were like nothing before although they were clearly inspired by the Talking Heads (Fear of Music), Young Marble Giant (Collossal Youth) and The Cure (17 seconds). Then they had to find a name. Whilst looking through an old bookshop, Léo came across a book called La tristesse contemporaine by Hippolyte Fierens Gevaert – a book on the main moral and intellectual movements of the 19th century. Tristesse Contemporaine was a French band of foreigners, a group of “back seat drivers” as they called themselves. Tristesse Contemporaine was a band of migrants, modern drifters.)

Air
www.astralwerks.com/air
( ;D --> More apt to cite stately rock paragons Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson as their inspirations than Derrick May or Aphex Twin, the French duo Air gained inclusion into the late-'90s electronica surge due chiefly to the labels their recordings appeared on, not the actual music they produced. Their sound, a variant of the classic disco sound coaxed into a relaxing Prozac vision of the late '70s, looked back to a variety of phenomena from the period -- synthesizer maestros Tomita, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Vangelis, new wave music of the nonspiky variety, and obscure Italian film soundtracks.)

The soundtrack of Vladislav Delay. His forte is the rhythm, even if so subtle at times. In fact, he may as well be classified as a “percussionist” (actually he is originally a drummer) rather than an electronic musician despite the fact that that is how he mostly generates his sound and music, because it is the beat and its possibilities which lie closest to his heart, which further serves to explain why he has experimented with it from so many different musical angles.)

Human Decay
www.humandecay.de
( ;D --> Human Decay’s sound features a special mixture of various electronic, electric and body-music elements. thus it’s not limited on some simple e.b.m. clichés. techno elements are also an inherent part of our music as well as industrial-noise timbres. the output is the distillate of a electronic-music experience since 1996 so midtempo-tracks alternate with dance floor hits, intelligent tricky sounds rotating around straight’n’stomping beats. rhythmic skill and the variety of sound ideas combined with experimental beat constellations synthesizes into an elaborate body which is juxtaposed / contradicted / mixed up / completed with pretentious lyrics. fresh and invigorating „uncatchy” files are the outcome of the HD-framework so in this connection, the band does not really insist on momentary important ingredients of electronic music but is one of the worlds few music projects with the same incredibly crazy name from the very start ‘til the very present.)
