Flavor of the Week #7

Air
www.astralwerks.com/air
( ;D --> More apt to cite stately rock paragons Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson as their inspirations than Derrick May or Aphex Twin, the French duo Air gained inclusion into the late-'90s electronica surge due chiefly to the labels their recordings appeared on, not the actual music they produced. Their sound, a variant of the classic disco sound coaxed into a relaxing Prozac vision of the late '70s, looked back to a variety of phenomena from the period -- synthesizer maestros Tomita, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Vangelis, new wave music of the nonspiky variety, and obscure Italian film soundtracks.)

Lindstrøm
www.myspace.com/feedelity
( ;D --> Lindstrøm is the moniker of Hans-Peter Lindstrøm. waerve. Raised on country and western music in the outskirts of the Norwegian oil town Stavanger, Lindstrom now lives in Oslo where he is making contemporary disco and running his Feedelity label. Claiming that "Hans-Peter Lindstrom is closing in on Henrik Ibsen and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as being Norway's poster boy of choice" (quoting an article on Piccadilly Records website) is obviously quite an overstatement, but nonetheless his original approach to dance music is currently causing quite a stir.)

( ;D --> Stromkern s first new release in nearly seven years features five new tracks, including the epic Sub-Librarian featured on Dependence 2011 in Europe, and the long-awaited release of Ruin(ed), which has become a staple in the Stromkern live show. Picking up where they left off on Light It Up, Stromkern continues to blend hip-hop vocals with layers of programming and elements of industrial rock.)

( ;D --> Vector Lovers is the moniker used by British electronic music producer Martin Wheeler. Wheeler, as described by Soma Records (his current label) is a "computer nerd" and "80s-obsessed knob-twiddler" and creates music which falls into the intelligent dance music (IDM) and electro genres. His music has been compared to and is influenced by such acts as Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode.)

Alex Smoke
www.myspace.com/alexsmoke1
( ;D --> Alex Smoke is unique talent to emerge from the Glasgow music scene. This young producer is pushing the boundaries of electronic music with his innovative style of fusing deep european minimalism with emotional strings and intellegent electro rhythms. Alex Smoke has a background in classical music which is very evident from the quality of his arrangements. His debut release 'Random As' came out on underground Glasgow label 'Savalas Records' to critical acclaim in Jan 2002. Jockey Slut described it as “the kind of record a pissed off Funk D’Void might make”, with IDJ claiming it was a “a dark minimal experiment in sinister atmospherics”. Alex Smoke can already count the likes of Andrew Weatherall, DJ Hell and the Ghostly International crew as fans of his work.)
