( ;D --> Shriekback is not an easy band to classify. They borrowed heavily from funk but had a very different agenda; their music was more suited for contemplation than for parties. They combined synthesizers and drum machines with throbbing bass lines and unorthodox vocals to evoke a primordial world where the line between human and animal was blurred. Shriekback's music was always an appropriate soundtrack for life in the dark, but with the emphasis on the possibilities rather than the dangers. Though often haunting, it was not gothic and harbored strains of pop and dance that rose to the surface from time to time.)

Not that this is music for the light-hearted, the world of Haus Arafna is merciless, full of urban nightmares. It reminds of vague B-movies, through its strange samples, screams, sounds and graphics. ( ;D --> Blam Honey is an Industrial rock band from Japan, formed in 1995 with two members: Tatsuya (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Ryonai (programming, percussion). Their heavy sound incorporates elements of noise and electro-industrial, and is described as "Industrial with a Gothic Sense". They list NIN, Marilyn Manson and Skinny Puppy as influences. Blam Honey released two albums: Grandiose Delusion (1998) and Typical Ingeniousness: Suggest (1999). They have since disbanded. Ryonai started a side project, Suppurate System, and has been creating ambient music and Gothic Lolita fashion accessories that have gained popularity by several prominent visual kei artists.
Tatsuya died of acute leukemia in 2004. Ryonai did not release this information until four years later. As of 2008, Ryonai has confirmed that Blam Honey has resumed activities. A revival performance and memorial CD release took place July 12th, 2009. A new vocalist has been chosen and will debut at Darkest Fest 2010.)

Rumors have been swirling today that a new project called How to Destroy Angels is perhaps the collaboration between Trent Reznor and his wife, Mariqueen Maandig of West Indian Girl. Consequence of Sound received a cryptic email from a publicist that says a 6-track EP will be out this summer and it includes the URL for the "band" website. Though the site features little else but what could be the album art and an equally mysterious 40-second video (below), the lady on the cover does resemble Mariqueen and the music bears all the sonic similarities to NIN's Year Zero. If anything, Reznor's stated in the past that he is a fan of Coil and How to Destroy Angels is one of said band's earliest, best releases.)
