Flavor of the week #35

Etienne Jaumet
www.myspace.com/etiennejaumet
( ;D --> One half of popular French horror disco group Zombie Zombie, Etienne Jaumet, has joined techno icon Carl Craig in an unlikely collaboration. Jaumet has been working under the radar as a solo artist for some time now, and Craig signed on early to produce his third album, Night Music.)

Skream

( ;D --> Ollie Jones had the good fortune to be working at the Big Apple record store when he first started making beats at age 15 and armed with a cracked copy of the Fruity Loops music-making software. Big Apple was at the center of the early development of U.K. garage's dark, half-speed offshoot dubstep before it was even called dubstep, and it was at Big Apple that Jones, who recorded as Skream, met fellow beatsmiths Benga and Hatcha. Hatcha was a DJ at the seminal club Forward and was only too happy to debut the dubplates of both Skream and Benga's early recordings. Their music took the tension and release formula of dance music, removed the release and layered in more tension instead. With slow and pounding basslines and wobbly treble they were creating a kind of music that summoned and summed up feelings of urban paranoia, but in an enjoyable way.)

( ;D --> the Anthem "Midnight Request Line" is an explosion of electro arpeggios and dub sub-bass. It's a tune you can sing along to. From the opening haunting strings of "Tortured Soul," which calls to mind the work of Philip Glass or Aphex Twin, to the more optimistic chords and guitar of "Dutch Flowerz," to the heavy vocal cuts featuring Warrior Queen and JME, and the heavy digi-sounds of "Auto-Dub," it's clear that this is a sonic visionary at work.)

Rennie Foster
www.myspace.com/renniefoster
( ;D --> Rennie Foster has been a well respected figure in the Canadian music and art community since he was just a teenager. He influenced many as an early pioneer of the Hip-Hop / B-Boy movement and later the House Music and Techno / Rave scene with his relentless underground spirit and dedication to breaking ground with everything he puts his mind to whether he was making music for the local television network, judging the DMC Dj contest or fighting for the right to dance at City Hall. Rennie is very civic minded, a long time member of the Universal Zulu Nation and he has performed and produced music for various charitable causes such as Amnesty International. After visiting Japan several times to play, Rennie fell in love with the techno oriented Tokyo club scene and has since relocated to Tokyo where he now resides with his half- Japanese twin daughters, the main source of inspiration for this dedicated single father and full time sound pilot. Rennie has been making himself heard the last few years with a well received string of singles and remixes with labels such as Subject-Detroit, Rebirth, Teknotika, Monoid, Synewave, Communique, Rewired (Pure-Plastic), Soiree, F-Communications etc. His music is heavily supported by well known taste-makers such as Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Dave Clarke, Sasha, Dave Seaman, James Holden and too many more to name. Rennie’s tracks have been licensed for mix CDs by the likes of Kevin Saunderson, Trentmoller and Danny Tenaglia.)
