Along with contemporaries Heaven 17, Clock DVA's name was inspired by the Russian-influenced Nadsat of Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange. Dva is the Russian word for "two". Newton had previously worked with members of Cabaret Voltaire in a collective called The Studs and with Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware in a band called The Future.)

It gained favor initially within major cities and eventually trickled into the continent's more socially secluded regions. This new wave of music was discovered at different instances by a group of friends living among the shadows of Helsingborg, a scenic municipality in western Sweden. philosophy, and matters of existence, were enthralled by the unique presentation and the emotional content offered through the music, specifically by that of bands such as Kraftwerk, The Human League, Depeche Mode, Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb.)

( ;D --> Covenant's new single ‚Sound Mirrors' gives us a first impression of their forthcoming album "The Blinding Dark". For the first time ever, the Swedes address distinctly topical events in world politics: the refugee crisis with its accompanying hysteria and the anxiety about the future of a European continent that looks forward into uncertainty. Sound Mirrors were acoustic mirrors that looked like giant stone ears, placed along the Englisch coast between 1916 and 1930 in order warn of approaching planes or war ships. Their elliptical shape bundled acoustic signals, and they were considered to be both technological and constructional masterpieces. Faster planes and especially the invention of radar made sound mirrors obsolete later on, so today, they are merely stone witnesses of bygone times along the southern and north-eastern coasts of England. The reference tot he refugee crisis and creeping radicalisation of Europe becomes particularly obvious when hearing Covenant's lyrics for the corresponding song. Musically, the band does not miss out on anything, delivering a club smasher that harks back to single classics such as ‚Stalker' or ‚Last Dance'. While unusual splashes of colour enhance the overall picture, ‚Sound Mirrors' is bound to become an enduring earworm that will soon set dancefloors aflame.)

( ;D --> The latest Swans record is truly compelling, as is "Before The Tears Came" by Black Needle Noise, the newest project of British Producer John Fryer. The length of the tracks is more conventional than those of Swans, while more than enough to build a distinctive and exciting world of sound. John Fryer broke through with dream pop pioneers This Mortal Coil in the mid-80s, and has worked with artists like Cocteau Twins, Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode. He was also a technician at the monumental "Children Of God", where Swans in earnest began to open up their music. Today he works from Grünerløkka in Oslo, collaborating with vocalists from around the world. One of them is Jarboe, who here makes a great effort on the songs "Vexation" and "Human". This is brilliant and high voltage cinema-pop with plenty of dark undertones. Fryer calls his music for audio alchemy, and he is truly the master who mixes the ingredients for a seductive and fascinating whole. “Before the tears came” offers atmospheric music that is streamlined and counter culture-tinged at once. Evoking intriguing, sensual and sleazy films for the inner eye, with ever more new singers taking the main stage. Layer by layer, line by line, Fryer constructs his very own world of art, just like directors as David Lynch and writers as Murakami do in in their fields. The eleven tracks are available digitally, and should be a must have for anyone interested in catchy and artistically driven avant-garde pop. It is beautiful, varied and truly addictive. Two records you should take with you from the vinyl year 2016.)
