Flavor of the Week #40

The Neon Judgement
www.facebook.com/TheNeonJudgeMent/
( ;D --> The Neon Judgment hail from the small town of Leuven near Brussels, Belgium and gave birth to the New Beat and EBM scenes worldwide with the release of their first two cassettes Suffering (1981) and TV Treated (1982). Always a consistent duo of Dirk Da Davo (synthesizers, vocals) and TB Frank (guitar, drum machine, vocals) The Neon Judgment worked in a parallel world alongside Suicide, Cabaret Voltaire, and the Deutsche Neue Welle recording under the watchful eyes of Roland Beelen (Antler-Subway) & Ludo Camerberlin (A Blaze Colour). Davo Da Davo and TB Frank veered between minimalistic industrial drones and odd, new wave-ish synth pop and dance music, underlain by cold, mechanical rhythms. The band combinded brash and seedy lyrics, with raw synthesizer stabs and repetitive drum machine beats both aggressive and danceable.)

( ;D --> Captain Mustache is a French music producer and DJ from Paris. He's been working on his project for many years to propose an army of beats. As a true electronic music lover, he worked with some electro idols (Adamski, Chicks on Speed, The Advent, Paris The Black Fu, Keith Tucker, Play Paul...) to bring an extra vocal dimension to his music. Inspired by 80's pioneers, Detroit techno and electroclash freaks, we can define his sound as romantic & burlesque electro.)

( ;D --> Daphne Guinness had lived many lives before she turned to music: heiress, philanthropist, mother, muse. She modelled for such fashion greats as Karl Lagerfeld and Philip Treacy, produced and appeared in Oscar nominated art films, designed her own lines of jewelry, make-up and perfume, and enjoyed long creative associations with editor Isabella Blow, designer Alexander McQueen and photographers David LaChapelle and Nick Knight. But really, her greatest work of art has been herself. With her extraordinary two-tone beehive hairdo, vertiginous platform shoes, exotically layered costumes and phantasmagoric jewelry, Daphne Guinness became renowned as one of the most strikingly dressed women on the planet.)

For those who’ve been around, Per Martinsen isn’t a new name. He’s been a force in the hardcore, rave, and techno scenes for over 30 years. Starting in 1990, he kicked off with powerful techno tracks on the Belgian label R&S. He’s also worked with labels like Smalltown Supersound, Ploink, and Virgin Records, to name a few. Formed in 1987, the duo are one of the most prominent acts signed with Warp Records, a label known for its pioneering electronic music and through which all Autechre albums have been released. While most associated with IDM (intelligent dance music), Booth and Brown are ambivalent in relating their sound to established genres. Their music has exhibited a gradual shift in aesthetic throughout their career, from their earlier work with clear roots in techno, electro and hip hop to later albums that are often considered more experimental in nature, featuring complex patterns of rhythm and subdued melodies. Autechre have also recorded under various pseudonyms. One of the duo's earliest recordings was a 12" under the alias Lego Feet, released in 1991 on Skam Records. The majority of releases by the mysterious "umbrella project" Gescom, most of them on Skam, have been attributed to Booth and Brown, among other artists.)

( ;D --> Producing sophisticated psychedelic Chill Out music is a discipline within the electronic music scene that is similar to playing Jazz in a certain respect: It needs maturity and extensive musical experience to go beyond the scope of standards, to become really good and extraordinary. This might have to do with the fact that this kind of music is not aiming a busy dance floor, rising its hands and shouting out loud during the breaks. Instead of that, it is made for the individual mind and therefore includes a less functional but pretty intellectual, mature and also very artistic moment. The sound was a big hit with the advertising world and tracks were co-opted for a variety of products including a Apple, an insurance group and broadcasters in the US and the UK. With their taste for experimentation extending to their videos, they won an MTV Europe award for "Remind Me" from their second album The Understanding. Beborn Beton
www.facebook.com/bebornbeton
( ;D --> Beborn Beton was originally conceived in 1989 by long time friends and music enthusiasts Stefan Tillmann and Michael B Wagner. With heavy influences from the bands of the eighties, Beborn Beton set out to expand and modernize the sounds of their once heroes. Shortly after Till and Michael joined forces, the then duo, set out to further develop their new endeavor. The result, brought the addition of the final member, former schoolmate Stefan Netschio to assume the role of lead vocals. With all the pieces now in place, the group was finally ready to embark on their own musical journey. Since the formation, the trio has remained intact and to date have released 5 albums, a remix album and several singles including the megahit Another World which spent several weeks on top of European and American club and radio charts. Now as the band approaches their 13th year they have yet again broadened their scope and we are proud to announce the first domestic release from this legendary group. The US debut album is a Greatest Hits collection of their extensive history soon to be followed by the first new album in nearly 7 years. The masses will soon be aware of why Beborn Beton is considered one of the true pioneers and one of the best bands to ever surface from the German music scene.)

Leæther Strip

www.leaether-strip.com/
( ;D --> According to founder Claus Larsen, Leæther Strip is, and always will be, only him. Larsen was born on November 13, 1967 in Aalborg, Denmark. He first released music under the name of Leæther Strip in 1989. However, his 1995 release G.A.W.M.U.S. (Getting Away With Murder U. S.) included two early demos from 1982 and 1984, with the latter forming the unknown beginning of the band according to an interview conducted with Claus Larsen. In 1991, Larsen created a side-project called Klute in which he also remained the sole member. It can be argued, and is by many, that the sound of Leæther Strip throughout the early 1990s helped define what is today known as electro-industrial. In a search performed on MySpace on December 1st, 2008, 294 bands had listed Leæther Strip (or "Leather Strip") as a musical influence, although the true number of bands influenced by Larsen's work is undoubtedly much higher. In 1994, Claus Larsen drastically changed the sound of Leæther Strip, with the release of a synthesized semi classical album. Conceived as a soundtrack to a fictional film, it was named Serenade for the Dead. The releases since then have reincorporated electronic dance elements, and have redefined Leæther Strip into what Larsen calls, "symphonic electro".)
