Unter Null
www.myspace.com/unternull
( ;D --> The sole creation of Erica Dunham, material began to be written under the moniker of “Unter Null” in the year 1998 when she was 17. After years of classical piano training, as well as cello and guitar, the foray into electronic music began. Unter Null started off as a powernoise project highly influenced by other artists back in the day such as Noisex, Converter, P.A.L., and a lot of the Ant-Zen/Hands roster.)

( ;D --> 2010 EP release from producer/musician Steven Ellison (AKA Flying Lotus). While the album Cosmogramma was high in concept and wide in musical collaboration, Pattern + Grid World pulls the focus back to Steven Ellison and his machines. These machines are speaking from the go, as "Clay" introduces itself in a fog of synth and vocoder and gives way to one of the many surprises here, the schizophrenic ping-ponging electro of "Kill Your Co-Workers". Drenched in alternating melodies, it's a synthetic counterpart to the grand string and harp arrangements of Cosmogramma, making acclaimed illustrator Theo Ellsworth's subtly psychedelic cover image of vision-through-noise all the more intimate.)

( ;D --> Named after a kind of fungi, Röyksopp was formed in 1998 by Norwegians Torbjörn Brundtland and Svein Berge who delivered a new kind of electronica with their debut album Melody A.M. in 2001.
The sound was a big hit with the advertising world and tracks were co-opted for a variety of products including a Apple, an insurance group and broadcasters in the US and the UK.
With their taste for experimentation extending to their videos, they won an MTV Europe award for "Remind Me" from their second album The Understanding.
The band's skills as producers have been utilized with remixes for Beck, Coldplay and Peter Gabriel and they were invited to do a compilation album for the Back To Mine series in 2006.)
Senior
R_amazon
( ;D --> An introduction to Senior by the band: Junior and Senior have a kinship, in that they represent Röyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. Junior – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas Senior is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimfull with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experince…”. Senior is furthermore an album about age, horses and being subdued – with devils breathing down your neck. Senior was written as a complete set of tracks, each designated to take a specific part in the bigger piece. All individual tracks have been made with the intent of coexisting with the other tracks on the album. Each track is equally as important as its predecessor and successor. We feel that none of the tracks should be regarded outside of this context, ie. separated from the rest of the album. Quite a brave/stupid thing to do in this day & age of iPods and cherrypicking, one might suggest. We couldn’t agree more – hell that’s even probably why we did it.)

The Residents
www.myspace.com/theresidents
www.residents.com
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Residents
( ;D --> Over the course of a recording career spanning several decades, the Residents remained a riddle of Sphinx-like proportions; cloaking their lives and music in a haze of willful obscurity, the band's members never identified themselves by name, always appearing in public in disguise -- usually tuxedos, top hats and giant eyeball masks -- and refusing to grant media interviews. Drawing inspiration from the likes of fellow innovators including Harry Partch, Sun Ra, and Captain Beefheart, the Residents channelled the breadth of American music into their idiosyncratic, satiric vision, their mercurial blend of electronics, distortion, avant-jazz, classical symphonies and gratingly nasal vocals reinterpreting everyone from John Philip Sousa to James Brown while simultaneously expanding the boundaries of theatrical performance and multimedia interaction.)
Ten Little Piggies
R_amazon
( ;D --> The Residents have been on quite a creative streak in the first decade of the new millennium, with a bunch of new albums, a pretty extensive reissue campaign, and retrospectives like the Kettles of Fish compilation. And judging from the "futurist compilation" Ten Little Piggies, they aren't slowing down at all. The "Ten Little Piggies" referred to are actually ten different projects that may or may not be completed and/or released (actually, as of the release date in late 2009, a couple of the projects have been released as downloads only and The Ughs! received a physical release as well). It's quite a mix. Several of these projects revisit earlier ones, like the Tweedles and Voice of Midnight instrumentals, which are interesting because those albums were originally so driven by narrative that the music was almost secondary. Apparently, they're also working on a Duck Stab Re-Imagined album, represented here by an almost drum'n'bass-style &"Semolina" and a surprisingly dark take on &"Laughing Song," reduced almost entirely to percussion. There are a couple of soundtrack projects (Strange Culture and Haeckel's Tale) and a couple extensions of the Bunny Boy saga: &"Arkansas" and a live album from the Bunny Boy tour. Perhaps the two best tracks come from the Talking Light project, described as "interpretive storytelling with an interactive electronic score"..."based on a mix of improvisation and scoring." They're both creepy and hilarious in that special Residents way. Will all these projects see the full light of day? Who knows. But Ten Little Piggies is further proof (if you needed any) that the Residents are certainly among the most restlessly creative and productive groups in the history of mankind.)

( ;D --> One of the reasons Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have called their brand new album, their eleventh,'History of Modern' is because they are acutely aware of what it is they're doing with this release. Fast forward 30 years to the reunited OMD of 2010 and it's clear that that sense of mischief and youthful idealism still fuels the group.)
