It is a musical journey that began in the early 1980s when she and fellow Australian Brendan Perry formed Dead Can Dance, one of the world's most original bands whose proud boast is that they never fitted into any neatly manufactured genre or predefined pigeonhole. With Lisa's otherworldly voice counter-poised by Brendon's mellifluous tones, from the outset, they thought nothing of setting discordant electric guitars and dark, rolling bass lines against cellos, trombones and timpani. Anderson is involved in running Southern Lord (Sunn O)))’s usual label home, whilst O’Malley is involved in a remarkable web of projects as a musician, designer, and label head of Ideologic Organ.)

Mentallo and the Fixer derived its name from a pair of comic book characters whose origins have long since faded into obscurity.The Dassing brothers were raised on rock music, so their first instruments were actually the guitar (Dwayne) and drums (Gary). However, this changed when the pair discovered a number of new wave bands whose music was heavily saturated with synthesizers. They’re the dynamic duo of the Denver indie scene, a lone electro outfit in a crowd of guitars. As a band, they’re relative newbies – they’ve been playing together for about a year, and the gig in March was maybe their fifth live show – but they sound like veterans with a tight sound that gets under your skin. As musicians, they come from different worlds. James is from the bedroom gearhead school of music, and never played in front of an audience until forming Force Publique. Cassie, on the other hand, practiced ten hours a day as a kid to be the next Jimi Hendrix, and played in classic rock and blues bands for years. They started playing together in a music class last year, and were surprised by what emerged. This unlikely combination produces the sort of tension that enlivens the best of vocal electronic music.
