Monolake / Robert Henke
www.roberthenke.com/
( ;D --> Monolake is an electronic music act based in Berlin. Originally consisting of members Gerhard Behles and Robert Henke, Monolake is now perpetuated by Henke while Behles focuses on running music software company Ableton. In fall 2004, Torsten Pröfrock became a member of Monolake. Monolake's minimal, dub-influenced techno music helped establish the sound of the Chain Reaction label, also located in Berlin, subsequently using their own [ml/i] (Monolake / Imbalance Computer Music) label for the group's output. Both current members have solo projects, with Henke releasing under his own name and Pröfrock as T++ and Various Artists. In 2008 T++ followed Ricardo Villalobos in bridging the gap between minimal techno and dubstep, by remixing Shackleton's Death Is Not Final for the Skull Disco label. In 2009, Robert Henke appeared in the electronic music documentary Speaking In Code which presented the completion of the Monodeck. Monolake is named after Mono Lake, which is east of the Sierra Nevada in California.)

Ross grew up on a huge variety of music from traditional folk songs to reggae and hardcore, and was also influenced by punk and UK metal in the northern wilderness of England. Though an astrophysics graduate, he always wanted to concentrate on music, and the sonically striking 11 track LP follows a run of acclaimed releases put out since 2007 for the likes of Local Action, Ho Tep, Sneaker Social Club and his own Snowfall imprint, and a stint at the revered Red Bull Music Academy in New York last year. Live, Tones is also accomplished, having made numerous Boiler Room appearances and supported the likes of Bonobo, Atoms For Peace and Jon Hopkins. He is also co-owner of record labels the Left Blank and A Future Without, using his accrued industry knowledge to help launch the careers of now established artists Vessel, Wife, Visionist, Lorca, Memotone and Young Echo, and records as Snow Ghosts with vocalist Augustus Ghost.)

( ;D --> Although his music is often consigned to the new age bins of record stores and the bulk of his work has been released on labels more closely associated with that classification, Robert Rich's solo and collaborative recordings have proven extremely influential on a range of new-school ambient and experimental artists. His association with older space music pioneers such as Steve Roach, Kevin Braheny, and Michael Stearns also makes him one of the few of that generation to have interfaced creatively with the new wave of experimental electronic composers. A California native, Rich began experimenting with electronics in the late '70s before attending Stanford University, where he completed a degree in psychology. While at Stanford, Rich's involvement in the university's prestigious Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics expanded his interest in electronic composition, as well as bringing him in contact with a wide range of nontraditional, non-Western musical ideas. Rich's performance of several all-night "sleep concerts" during this period also helped solidify an aesthetic focus on psychoacoustics, perceptible in early recordings such as Geometry and Trances/Drones.)

( ;D --> Drexciya was an electronic music duo from Detroit, Michigan. The late James Stinson was the only officially identified member of Drexciya, but it was considered an open secret that he had a partner, Gerald Donald. The majority of Drexciya's releases were in the style of dance-floor-oriented Electro, punctuated with elements of retro, 1980s Detroit Techno, with occasional excursions into the Ambient and Industrial genres. Tracks are mostly centered around the TR-808 drum machine, with bass, melodies, and synth textures ebbing and flowing in time. Anecdotes suggest that Stinson and Donald recorded tracks while playing the instruments live, making use of analogue equipment and sequencing methods. Drexciya combined a faceless, underground, anti-mainstream media stance with mythological, sci-fi narratives, to help heighten the dramatic effect of their music. In this aspect they were similar to artists within and close to the Detroit collective Underground Resistance.)

It was because of his music that Len teamed up with several of the early pioneers of electronic music. When ANNE CLARK heard Len’s remix for ‘Sleeper in Metropolis’, Implant became the electronic live band of ANNE CLARK for 5 years, resulting in guest contributions of Anne on 2 albums (‘Audio Blender’ and ‘Self Inflicted’). It has been far from straight forward: Land pirates, cannibals, the occult, and former virtual reality junkies desperate for their next hit, all lurk in even the furthest reaches of this vast waste land. Sierra, no matter how arduous this task, the force is too great to resist. To be master is something she cannot walk away from. Our post-apocalyptic world has ravaged life as we remember it, and only a few have the power to lead us to either the light or the dark. Which side is Sierra on? In a land set in a steampunk western, her intentions could go either way.)
