www.facebook.com/M.Canterel
( ;D --> Martial Canterel is the solo project of Brooklyn-based musician Sean McBride (who also performs as half of the duo Xeno & Oaklander). Guardian figure of the new school of analogue electronic music, he has cast his shadow over the entire synth scene of the past 15 years. Crafting his electronic sound in a peculiar intersection between avant-garde and pop, Martial Canterel merges the influences of the first wave of underground minimal electronic bands from northern Europe with seminal industrial noise bands while simultaneously giving nods to the smoothly stylish song craft of early French and British New Wave. Martial Canterel is definitely one of the most talented artist in electronic underground music of our time. Each and every single song of him is just gripping. The music stands in the tradition of the past, but is characterized by a super-intense signature sound which is full of melancholy. The mysterious lyrics and the brilliant voice that seems to be absent and emotional at the same time add to the sinister mood of the tracks. If you are only a little bit into Minimal Wave or Synthpop, you can't ignore Martial Canterel. And if you don't, this could be your entrance ticket into this musical territory!.)

Flavor of the Week #20

Boards of Canada
www.boardsofcanada.com
( ;D --> Boards of Canada (commonly abbreviated BoC) are a Scottish electronic music duo consisting of brothers Michael Sandison (born 1 June 1970) and Marcus Eoin (born 21 July 1971). They have released several works on Warp Records with little advertising and few interviews, while also having an elusive and obscure back-catalogue of releases on their self-run Music70 label. They have also recorded at least four tracks under the alias Hell Interface. Boards of Canada's music is reminiscent of the warm, analogue sounds of 1970s media and contains themes of childhood, nostalgia and the natural world. Mike and Marcus have mentioned the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which the group's name is derived, as a source of inspiration. BoC's sound is a product of their use of analogue equipment, mix of electronic and conventional instrumentation, use of distorted samples as well as live and recorded lyrics, and their layering and blending of these elements. Because they avoid a purely synthetic sound, their music is often described as having a warm, emotive quality often meant to inspire nostalgia. This is helped by the use of samples from 1970s television shows and other media prevalent in the era of the brothers' shared childhood, especially the nature-inspired documentaries produced by the National Film Board of Canada.)

www.facebook.com/extrawelt.live/
( ;D --> The future of powerful, breathtaking electronic music by Extrawelt (Arne Schaffhausen & Wayan Raabe). Their sound incorporates minimal, progressive and techno, aimed squarely at blowing holes in sound systems. With more than 10 Original Productions and dozens of remixes, Extrawelts’ tank-like driving bass lines, powerful drum beats and blend of menacing, droning, echoing synths are impressing everyone from your 8 year old sister to some of the most prolific DJs in the world including Sasha, John Digweed, James Holden and Sven Vath. Early on Extrawelt’s productions quickly caught the ear of James Holden, who signed their first track to his own Border Community Label. James gave the track a working title “soopertrack” which stuck, and soon became a manifesto for their music, producing and releasing dance floor bomb after bomb, through labels including the Iconic Cocoon label, Traum, Great Stuff and Giant Wheel.)

After recording a few demos which failed to lead to an official release, Newton left The Future (with the other two members going on to form The Human League) and began recording avant garde and experimental music under the name Clock DVA along with Steven "Judd" Turner. As Newton's interest in the growing culture of industrial music grew, Clock DVA recorded a series of albums to much critical acclaim and he formed The Anti Group (TAGC), an open ended series of multimedia collaborations which revolved around psychoacoustic experimentation and the notion of occult ritual (which had always been an influence on his work with Clock DVA, as well, but were more directly explored with TAGC) as well as recording with Andrew McKenzie (The Hafler Trio) as the Psychophysicist. Newton continues to remain active with both Clock DVA and TAGC as well as coordinating the multimedia production company ARMComm (Anterior Research Media Communications.)
