Flavor of the Week #17

( ;D --> It makes sense that upstart label Disaro calls Houston home; the city's humid weather and the syrup-sipping roots of the regional hip-hop scene perfectly suit the label's releases, which feature swampy atmospheres and slowed-down vocals run through varying levels of oppressive static. New York duo White Ring have that distinctive lean down pat, especially on "IxC999", scheduled for released on Disaro. A skeletal drum machine clatters with low-rider menace, while vocalist Kendra Malia alternately whispers and chant-sings about "ice in her hand" as walls of blown-out bass threaten to drown her out. At its core, "IxC999" is pretty fucking scary, from Malia's voice to the sound effects (creaking doors, gunshots) on down; by the time it dissolves into high-pitched staccato moans, you don't know whether to nod your head or hide under the covers.)

Orange Sector

( ;D --> EBM has just been reanimated by this former Zoth Ommog recording artist.
ORANGE SECTOR, hailing from Hannover, Germany, is back! This is pure, old-school EBM and power basslines in the vein of NITZER EBB and DAF. This is what true EBM is all about.)

Sigur Rós

( ;D --> You can forgive Sigur Ro´s for being hazy on the details of the recording of their sixth album Valtari. It’s either the album they always wanted to make, or the album they almost didn’t make, depending on how you look at it. In 2011, the band started the painstaking forensic task of piecing together a cohesive and magical work from disparate constituent parts. If this sounds unromantic, the results are anything but. Something alchemical occurs when the four members of Sigur Ro´s are in the room together, and even if Valtari is more a “studio based” album than any of its predecessors (which usually start life as rehearsal room jams), the long hours of experimentation and unsentimental editing have yielded incredibly persuasive results.)

Gregor Tresher
www.gregor-tresher.de
( ;D --> In the field of electronic music, Gregor Tresher is by no means a debutant. For more than ten years the thirty-four-year old DJ and producer from Frankfurt gathered merits modernizing the algorithms of electronic music. It has been his “Still EP“ in 2004 that upgraded him into the Champions League of European Techno producers. After many highlight releases like “Neon“, “Full Range Madness“, “The Wombat“ or “The Now People“ on labels like Intacto, Cocoon, Great Stuff or Rebel One, it was his eagerly-awaited debut album “A Thousand Nights“ that defined the state of the art in electronic dancemusic 2008, with its titletrack beeing the year´s best selling Techno song on Beatport.)

Pro Patria
www.propatria.be/
( ;D --> Flemish origin Pro Patria was founded in 1988 by Peter V. (aka PVC). Out of the collaboration with CCP arose "Quod Erat Demonstrandum" in 1997. Unfortunately, CCP faced bankruptcy and personal trouble meant the end. In 2017 Peter was invited to play at the Familientreffen festival, which motivated him to produce "Back to Basics". In 2019 Pro Patria will release its new album.)
