Hazylujah
www.hazylujah.com
( ;D --> Hazylujah. It’s immediately clear why Delsin sought him out. His tracks play with filtered, sci-fi synth motifs in a way that resembles more the general aesthetic of the label than any particular artist, combining an emphasis on ambience with loose, deeper techno structures.)
Too Many Ghosts
H_amazon
( ;D --> Delsin come correct with Hazylujah's strangely infectious 'Too Many Ghosts' debut. Much like the recent Xosar sessions, there's a genuinely unnerving and ethereal quality to Hazylujah's music; something abstract and unquantified which is really endearing to these ears at least. Leading out 'Hazylutrax' fixes a dark, stalking bassline to gremlin-like synth quirks, while 'Too Many Ghosts' is prone to dissolving the rhythm and reappearing at will amidst eerie acid tweaks and slanted synth dissonance. 'Dreams Logic' is markedly more sensual, in that drifty, track NWAQ style, a sound shared by the shimmering, dubbed surfaces of 'Minds Wired'.)

( ;D --> Exclusive* Sterling debut release from the enigmatic Akkord collective based in the peripheries of Manchester. For now, the provenance of their identity will be on a need-to-know basis: their music will yield more than names could inform. These three tracks are a distillation of their passions for "minimalism, art, design, mathematics and sacred geometry", and aesthetically occupy darker ground in the shade of the Autonomic sound. Checking in with the spectral robo-ragga of 'The Drums' - sounding something like Burial meets dBridge - they shapeshift into rolling Electro-Ruffige a la Boddika on 'Renewal' catalysed by muscular, rippling arpeggios and pointillist percussions, while 'Back & Forth' engages with tensely constructed Electro-step hyperspace. ( ;D --> There is a powerful harmony in Grimes. It is a project which is both musical and visual, embodying the arts of 2D, performance, dance, video and sound. Claire Boucher weaves these together to a strong rhythmic effect, “the marriage between the voice of a human and the heartbeat of a machine. Each album tackles a different set of influences and styles. Her newest album, Visions, incorporates influences as wide as Enya, TLC and Aphex Twin, drawing from genres like New Jack Swing, IDM, New Age, K-pop, Industrial and glitch. This approach has marked Grimes as a curator of culture, and allowed the project to remain flexible and evolving. A phantasmic state for the deep listener, sourcing the long forgotten spells running alongside humans for centuries and forcing them through a hyper-futuristic filter. Compositional and vocal delivery are coloured with an emotional trauma. Despite a generally upbeat demeanour, an urgency permeates the music. Calling us between our history and the future it uses the pleasure of minimal rhythms and dance to entice, but beyond its rich, software-sculpted cohesiveness, and vocal energy, runs a very real and odd world.)

Seemingly all three have dabbled in music in various shapes and forms before meeting and deciding to commence the Tristesse Contemporaine journey, quoting Talking Heads, Young Marble Giant and The Cure as inspiration for their sound. Their self titled debut album – produced in its entirety by Pilooski – is due out next month, and comes wrapped in all sorts of press release conjured mysticism, with the label claiming the band disappeared for a week in July last year after boarding a flight bound for New York, with the trio unable to explain their absence when found wandering at dawn on the launch base of the European Space Agency.)
( ;D --> 20th July 2011. It was at Heathrow airport that the three members of the group Tristesse Contemporaine disappeared without a trace. After boarding flight 671 in Paris Charles De Gaulle, they had a stopover in London before arriving in New York where they were to give a concert that night. Very soon the airline noticed they were missing and called the police who immediately started a search. The only clues they had were a few biographical details provided by their record company :
“Tristesse Contemporaine is a Parisian trio:
- Narumi was born in Tokyo, she began playing the piano at the age of 3 before entering the academy at 17. She started an all girl punk band at high school and covered songs by Staline (a famous Japanese band) and The Cure. As a fan of Godard and La Nouvelle Vague, Narumi came to Paris in 1994 to learn the French language and study fashion. She has worked for the music orientated media and for the Japanese gallery Poetry of Sex, as well as taking part in bands Suburbia (with Marc Collin), aswefall (with Léo Hellden) and Telepopmusik. It was on tour with the latter that she met Maik the singer. Screamadelica by Primal Scream is her favourite album.
- Léo Hellden grew up in the suburbs of Stockholm and was focused on a career as a hockey player before he started playing guitar at the age of 18. Three years later he became the guitarist of Jay Jay Johanson and recorded three albums (Tatoo, Poison, Antenna). On his way to London, he met a French woman and moved to Paris where he started aswefall with Clément, as well as studying economics. Léo often quotes Robin Guthrie from the Cocteau Twins as a decisive influence.
- Maik is from East London where his Jamaican family still live today. He is a fan of hip hop and started writing words after discovering Leonard Cohen (Maik hopes to equal him before he is 70). In the mid 90’s, he became the singer of Earthling after answering an advertisement in The NME. He recorded three albums including the cult trip hop album Radar. He took part in a project called Cuba, a group signed to 4AD, but the apocalyptic touring got the better of him. A French woman saved him and he followed her to Paris where he said : “If I had stayed in England, I would have died.”
Through friendship and compatibility, Narumi, Léo and Maik decided to start a band in 2009. They soon needed to record in order to back up their spontaneous ideas, their imagination and their powerful drafts. The demos resulting from their recording sessions were like nothing before although they were clearly inspired by the Talking Heads (Fear of Music), Young Marble Giant (Collossal Youth) and The Cure (17 seconds). Then they had to find a name. Whilst looking through an old bookshop, Léo came across a book called La tristesse contemporaine by Hippolyte Fierens Gevaert – a book on the main moral and intellectual movements of the 19th century. Tristesse Contemporaine was a French band of foreigners, a group of “back seat drivers” as they called themselves. Tristesse Contemporaine was a band of migrants, modern drifters.)

Bonobo
www.facebook.com/bonoboofficial
( ;D --> Simon Green (born March 30, 1976), also known by his stage name Bonobo, is a British musician, producer and DJ. Green has recorded and performed solo DJ sets under the name Barakas, and together with Robert Luis from Tru Thoughts as Nairobi and Barakas. Bonobo uses a wide variety of samples in his music combined with heavy, often complex basslines. His music generally develops linearly - with new elements such as basslines or percussion coming in one after the other. In Days to Come, he mixes this sonic background with the clean yet distinctive vocals of Bajka, who often uses harmony to build up a multifaceted sound.)

( ;D --> Megaherz (English "Mega-heart", a pun on the homophone "megahertz") is an industrial metal group formed in Munich, Germany in 1993. One of the band's most famous songs is "Gott sein" ("To be God") on their first full album Wer Bist Du? ("Who Are You?"). Megaherz has gone through many changes in musical style since their founding. Their early works are a fairly dark alternative metal, comparable to 1990s American bands such as Faith No More, whereas recent works are comparable to bands such as Oomph! and Rammstein.)

Air
www.astralwerks.com/air
( ;D --> More apt to cite stately rock paragons Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson as their inspirations than Derrick May or Aphex Twin, the French duo Air gained inclusion into the late-'90s electronica surge due chiefly to the labels their recordings appeared on, not the actual music they produced. Their sound, a variant of the classic disco sound coaxed into a relaxing Prozac vision of the late '70s, looked back to a variety of phenomena from the period -- synthesizer maestros Tomita, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Vangelis, new wave music of the nonspiky variety, and obscure Italian film soundtracks.)

( ;D --> Lindstrøm is the moniker of Hans-Peter Lindstrøm. waerve. Raised on country and western music in the outskirts of the Norwegian oil town Stavanger, Lindstrom now lives in Oslo where he is making contemporary disco and running his Feedelity label. Claiming that "Hans-Peter Lindstrom is closing in on Henrik Ibsen and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as being Norway's poster boy of choice" (quoting an article on Piccadilly Records website) is obviously quite an overstatement, but nonetheless his original approach to dance music is currently causing quite a stir.)

( ;D --> Alex Smoke is unique talent to emerge from the Glasgow music scene. This young producer is pushing the boundaries of electronic music with his innovative style of fusing deep european minimalism with emotional strings and intellegent electro rhythms. Alex Smoke has a background in classical music which is very evident from the quality of his arrangements. His debut release 'Random As' came out on underground Glasgow label 'Savalas Records' to critical acclaim in Jan 2002. Jockey Slut described it as “the kind of record a pissed off Funk D’Void might make”, with IDJ claiming it was a “a dark minimal experiment in sinister atmospherics”. Alex Smoke can already count the likes of Andrew Weatherall, DJ Hell and the Ghostly International crew as fans of his work.)

Vladislav Delay

( ;D --> Vladislav Delay, Uusitalo, Luomo, Conoco, Sistol. Under a raft of different names this Finnish artist (Sasu Ripatti *1976) has experimented with ambient, broken beat, glitch as well as grooves and house music with soulful vocals. In addition he has collaborated with and worked for a wide range of artists ranging from Scissor Sisters and Craig Armstrong to AGF, Black Dice, Massive Attack, Towa Tei and Ryuichi Sakamoto. While his side-projects and remixes are there to flirt with more stable rhythms and dancefloor institutions, his main love as well as his background is in experimenting with different kind of sounds and rhythms; a quest to find some music not heard yet. The soundtrack of Vladislav Delay. His forte is the rhythm, even if so subtle at times. In fact, he may as well be classified as a “percussionist” (actually he is originally a drummer) rather than an electronic musician despite the fact that that is how he mostly generates his sound and music, because it is the beat and its possibilities which lie closest to his heart, which further serves to explain why he has experimented with it from so many different musical angles.)

Human Decay
www.humandecay.de
( ;D --> Human Decay’s sound features a special mixture of various electronic, electric and body-music elements. thus it’s not limited on some simple e.b.m. clichés. techno elements are also an inherent part of our music as well as industrial-noise timbres. the output is the distillate of a electronic-music experience since 1996 so midtempo-tracks alternate with dance floor hits, intelligent tricky sounds rotating around straight’n’stomping beats. rhythmic skill and the variety of sound ideas combined with experimental beat constellations synthesizes into an elaborate body which is juxtaposed / contradicted / mixed up / completed with pretentious lyrics. fresh and invigorating „uncatchy” files are the outcome of the HD-framework so in this connection, the band does not really insist on momentary important ingredients of electronic music but is one of the worlds few music projects with the same incredibly crazy name from the very start ‘til the very present.)

( ;D --> Simple sonic events are unfolding themselves, evoking the sound of a Carl Orff children's ensemble. Pleasant and strange noises join a bass foundation that recreates the ground-shaking subsonic waves of mid-'90s drum n' bass. It's like a drum major meets a Tibetan monk. They try to do a dervish thing together, elegant and funky, which forcibly drags the slowest souls out of their torpor and forces them to run and jump. Loops radiate, something is bouncing, the universe steps out of an anti-academic cloud, into your mind and the unexplored regions of our sensibility. All is good in the noosphere with Redsuperstructure. Robert Lippok's new record is based on the spectacular set he performed at Raster-Noton Electric Campfire at Villa Massimo in September of 2010.)

( ;D --> Stubborn and combative, Diskonnekted has always been fighting the stereotypical boundaries that separate the genres within the genres. Refusing to walk the line or to follow any leader, Diskonnekted floats somewhere between big electronic beats, spacy ambient layers, deep and dirty basslines and distorted grooves. Somewhere between heaven and hell, and soon somewhere between your ears. With Diskonnekted, Belgian artist Jan Dewulf uniquely combines progressive electro tunes with a broad spectrum of alternative dance styles ranging from EBM and big beats to industrial and tech-edged breaks. After having worked on a wide spectrum of previous projects enriched with the trademark Belgian EBM-sound, which often brought him comparisons to The Klinik, it was at the turn of the millennium that Diskonnekted was founded.)

Stars of the Lid
www.myspace.com/starsofthelid
( ;D --> Stars of the Lid is a duo specializing in drone-based ambient music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk (both bands have tracks named "Taphead"), post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their songs are largely beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement within the songs. Their sound has been described as "divine, classical drone without the tedious intrusion of drums or vocals".)
