Flavor of the week #51

David Lynch
http://davidlynch.com
( ;D --> David Lynch is best known for making films that bring our darkest thoughts to life in ways creepier than we could ever imagine. But the 64-year-old art-house staple isn't just a director-- he's a painter, a meditation advocate, an amateur meteorologist, and a musician, too. Along with writing lyrics for longtime composing partner Angelo Badalamenti, Lynch helped with some of the otherworldly atmospherics for several of his films and even wrote (and sang) on two songs for his last feature, 2006's Inland Empire. Last year, Lynch collaborated with Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous on the Dark Night of the Soul project. Nowadays, the musical muse is hitting Lynch particularly hard. He just released a double A-side single featuring an uncharacteristic electronic track called "Good Day Today" along with a (more characteristic) twisted blues track, "I Know".)

( ;D --> An uncluttered, ear-pleasing electro-pop track with pulsing production - think Aphex Twin¹s ³Fingerbib² with less sauce, through a vocal mask of heavy computer filtration.)

( ;D --> Terminal Choice is a German Electronic rock band. It was formed by singer Chris Pohl (also of Blutengel, Tumor, Pain of Progress and owner of the Fear Section label) in 1993. Their lyrics are sung in German and English. The sound was originally primarily electronic music, but with the 1998 album Navigator, guitars were added. Besides Chris, the original lineup included Jens Gärtner, who provided the drum and loops. In 1997, Manuel Selling was added to the lineup to provide the guitars. In 2000, Manuel left the band and Gordon Mocznay took over on guitar and bass guitar. A year later in 2001, Louis Manke joined the band as well, adding a second guitar to the band. Terminal Choice is currently Chris Pohl's main project, and have had success in Germany. The success of Terminal Choice has also transferred to the other members of Terminal Choice, as Chris helped Gordon form his own band, Mordorn, and also helped Louis form a band named Staubkind. Despite being involved with numerous bands, all members are still creating music with Terminal Choice.)

( ;D --> Better known perhaps for his work in bands like the Postal Service and Dntel, James Figurine (or Jimmy Tamborello) was inspired to create his own techno-pop solo album while on tour through Germany. Enlisting vocal help from Erlend Øye and Jenny Lewis, among others, James Figurine's debut solo album, Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake, was released in 2006.)

( ;D --> The second of two new EP's from Jimmy Tamborello’s Dntel, ‘After Parties II’ is possibly an even more horizontal take on his sound delivering subtle house experimentations and excursions into cavernous dub.)

( ;D --> Ctrl debuted in 1998 with Secure The Shadow. Over the next eight years, the band released three more acclaimed albums, and appeared on various compilations. 2009 saw the release of their fifth offering, Lost In Static. It allows the unique blend of pop-tinged electro, driving beats and signature guitar to remain the staples of their sound. The band continues to grow with each new incarnation, while carefully tipping a hat to the founders of style. The band is often augmented by long-standing compatriots. Since inception, CTRL has performed more than 70 shows, with such notable acts as: Covenant, VNV Nation, Funker Vogt, Assemblage 23, Icon Of Coil, Combichrist, Chemlab, Information Society, London After Midnight, Cruxshadows, Voltaire, Imperative Reaction, Stomkern, and Iris, as well as many others.)
