Flavor of the Week #19

Boards of Canada
www.boardsofcanada.com
( ;D --> Boards of Canada (commonly abbreviated BoC) are a Scottish electronic music duo consisting of brothers Michael Sandison (born 1 June 1970) and Marcus Eoin (born 21 July 1971). They have released several works on Warp Records with little advertising and few interviews, while also having an elusive and obscure back-catalogue of releases on their self-run Music70 label. They have also recorded at least four tracks under the alias Hell Interface. Boards of Canada's music is reminiscent of the warm, analogue sounds of 1970s media and contains themes of childhood, nostalgia and the natural world. Mike and Marcus have mentioned the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which the group's name is derived, as a source of inspiration. BoC's sound is a product of their use of analogue equipment, mix of electronic and conventional instrumentation, use of distorted samples as well as live and recorded lyrics, and their layering and blending of these elements. Because they avoid a purely synthetic sound, their music is often described as having a warm, emotive quality often meant to inspire nostalgia. This is helped by the use of samples from 1970s television shows and other media prevalent in the era of the brothers' shared childhood, especially the nature-inspired documentaries produced by the National Film Board of Canada.)

( ;D --> "Hic Sunt Leones is a story about secret ancient technologies coming from pre-human civilization. Sacred steam-cyber punk electronix to describe mystic visions about laser marble, positron iron and extra-dimensional explorers too far from our technology-teenage era. Hindi's Vimana, Israel's Ark of the covenant, are just footsteps of what we inherit from our creators. The unknown camouflaged into the holy, the inexplicable into the dangerous: this is the aim of the keepers of our evolution.)

( ;D -->  is a french duo born in 2007 from the sick minds of Pilooski and Pentile. They have separatedly released some acclaimed records in the last past years (Pentile was involved in Octet and France Copland, Pilooski has remixed LCD Sound System, Mystery Jets and Frankie Valli) before finding a mutual ground around their love for sci fi movies, weird club music and south western french cooking style. Discodeine is signed on french imprint DIRTY, home label of the well known “Dirty edits” (a collaborative project between Pilooski and Dirty Sound System) and some other cool and weird compilations projects.)
