Flavor of the Week #39

Youth Code
( ;D --> Los Angeles Duo Youth Code are raw, punishing, industrious electronics built from the seeds of hardcore and early Wax Trax. Ryan William George and Sara Taylor blend chaos with catchy dance undertones to create a sonic fury paralleled to none. Formed in 2012, Using all hardware to perform, Youth Code have already proven their path with being the first band outside of Psychic TV to be put out by PTV's own label " Angry Love Productions " as well as a full length LP on the flawless Dais Records roster.)
An Overture
( ;D --> Youth Code’s latest release, A Place To Stand, is an expression of rage that could only come from Los Angeles. Perfectly capturing the frustration and claustrophobia of the early 80s LA hardcore scene but re-appropriating that aggression and melding it to the strict, pounding electronics of classic industrial. Recorded by Josh Eustis (Nine Inch Nails, Telefon Tel Aviv, Sons of Magdalene), Side A of A Place to Stand features four new Youth Code tracks that showcase the band exploring an evolved sense of melodic synth work and more varied tempos than anything they have released to date.)

Gazelle Twin
( ;D --> Gazelle Twin is the stage name of Elizabeth Walling, a British Industrial-pop musician from Brighton)
( ;D --> In UNFLESH Gazelle Twin explores an adrenalised-Pop style - from the bone-chilling, Iggy Pop-inspired 'I Feel Blood', the stark choral lullaby of 'Premonition', to the Prince-meets-Sonic Youth influenced 'GUTS' and 'Still Life'. Far removed from the artist's former dreamscapes. "This is a rich, dark and gorgeous album, bristling with sonic challenge and literary depth" 8/10 -  UNCUT.)

( ;D --> Forged across borders between Asher Levitas of acclaimed shadowy London outfit Old Apparatus, and Norwegian avant garde musician/vocalist Linn Carin Dirdal. Taking cues from classic pop production of the 70s and 80s, the early 4AD sound of The Cocteau Twins et al, pastoral folk, along with contemporaries such as The Knife, Saa make gloriously intricate avant-pop, as exciting as it is unclassifiable. Levitas' high production values will come as no surprise to fans of the aforementioned Old Apparatus, and here his complex rhythm arrangements and delicate electronics perfectly support Dirdal's layered vocals, which range from upfront and powerful to moments of choral beauty.)
Walking waters
( ;D --> Walking Waters is the follow-up to Saa's critically acclaimed debut EP. The English/ Norwegian duo present an upbeat melancholic concoction of love, lust, loss and liberation. Moving on from Asher Levitas' (Old Apparatus/Penny) and Linn Carin Dirdal's debut on Left Blank in 2013, the four tracks of Walking Waters playfully whisk and rip apart 90's R&B, Jungle and Trip Hop. Think overcast Sade or Camus' cigarette smoke drifting through Tracey Thorn's home. Levitas' moody and intricate productions and Dirdal's vocal deftness once again combine to delicious effect. The EP was mixed and co-produced by Grammy Award Winning Engineer Ian Dowling.)
(K)new You

( ;D --> Perc is one of electronic dance music’s reference points: an internationally touring DJ, label owner and one of the most respected producers in techno today. Known as one of the most forward-thinking individuals in techno Perc (aka London based Ali Wells) fuses current sounds with his extensive knowledge of electronic music’s past to create something new & unique. A regular artist on such scene-leading labels as CLR, Kompakt, Drumcode, Stroboscopic Artefacts and Ovum as well as his own world-reknown Perc Trax imprint, Perc is as uncompromising as he is unique.)
Drax - Phosphene
B2. The Exaltics Remix by Perc
( ;D--> One of Perc’s all-time favourite tracks returns on Perc Trax Ltd, an imprint purposely created for reissues and collaborative projects. Originally released in 1993 as part of Thomas Heckmann’s ‘Drax Three’ EP on his own Trope Recordings label, it featured on Carl Cox’s seminal F.A.C.T. mix CD and alongside ‘Amphetamine’ has become one of the biggest tracks of Heckmann’s career. This 12" features three new remixes, all of which twist 'Phosphene' into something new whilst keeping the forward facing attitude of the original in place.)

Purity UK
( ;D --> Purity are London drum n’ bass duo Jill Stark and Florence Briggs who write, produce and programme their tracks with an agenda to create their own original and distractive sound that is Purity. The result is a mix of song based and instrumental tracks, energetic, melodic, pounding and unique. Though inspired and influenced by a range of musical tastes, its their love of drum and bass, dub step, rock and electronica that defines their tracks.)
