Flavor of the Week #35

Martial Canterel

www.facebook.com/M.Canterel
( ;D --> Martial Canterel is the solo project of Brooklyn-based musician Sean McBride (who also performs as half of the duo Xeno & Oaklander). Guardian figure of the new school of analogue electronic music, he has cast his shadow over the entire synth scene of the past 15 years. Crafting his electronic sound in a peculiar intersection between avant-garde and pop, Martial Canterel merges the influences of the first wave of underground minimal electronic bands from northern Europe with seminal industrial noise bands while simultaneously giving nods to the smoothly stylish song craft of early French and British New Wave. Martial Canterel is definitely one of the most talented artist in electronic underground music of our time. Each and every single song of him is just gripping. The music stands in the tradition of the past, but is characterized by a super-intense signature sound which is full of melancholy. The mysterious lyrics and the brilliant voice that seems to be absent and emotional at the same time add to the sinister mood of the tracks. If you are only a little bit into Minimal Wave or Synthpop, you can't ignore Martial Canterel. And if you don't, this could be your entrance ticket into this musical territory!.)

Âme

( ;D --> Âme is Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer, the German duo who run Innervisions with Dixon. They've been DJing and producing together for almost exactly ten years, but as of late they've begun dividing labor a bit more evenly, with Beyer doing most of the DJing and Wiedemann spearheading their live act, which debuted in 2010. Simply entitled Âme Live, the upcoming album is a collection of recordings from the road, all of which have been edited specifically for the album and woven into a continuous mix. It features new versions of classics like "Where We At" and "Rej" (our #3 track of the '00s) as well as remixes of other artists, including a previously unreleased "beatless" mix of Gui Boratto's "This Is Not the End.")
