Flavor of the Week #4

Plaid
( ;D --> One of my absolute favorites!)
www.plaidmusic.co.uk/
https://soundcloud.com/plaid
( ;D --> Plaid is a British electronic music duo comprising Andy Turner and Ed Handley, and based out of London. They are former members of The Black Dog and used many other names, such as Atypic (Andrew Turner) and Balil (Ed Handley), before settling on Plaid. They have collaborated with female singers Mara Carlyle, Nicolette and Björk. Although Plaid pre-existed the association, the duo's Ed Handley and Andy Turner spent most of their early recording years with Ken Downie as the dancefloor-confounding Black Dog Productions. Meshing well with Downie's vision of heavily hybridized post-techno and obscurantist thematics.)

Miss Kittin & The Hacker
https://misskittin.com/
( ;D --> Caroline Hervé (born 1973), better known by her stage name Miss Kittin, is a French electronic music DJ, singer, and songwriter. Since rising to prominence in 1998 for her singles "1982" and "Frank Sinatra" with The Hacker, she has worked with other musicians such as Chicks on Speed, Felix da Housecat and Golden Boy. She released her debut solo album I Com in 2004 and second solo album BatBox in 2008. She achieved international popularity with the singles "Rippin Kittin" and "Silver Screen Shower Scene".) https://www.facebook.com/DJTheHacker
( ;D --> Michel Amato, better known by his stage name The Hacker, is a French electroclash and techno producer who has worked extensively with Miss Kittin. His work has been influenced by electronic artists like Kraftwerk, new wave artists such as The Cure and Depeche Mode, as well as the French rave scene of the early 1990s. His artist name comes from the Jeff Mills track of the same name.)

Cubic
https://www.facebook.com/cubicpromo/
( ;D --> CUBIC’s sonic identity is often characterised by a good mix of pumping 808 kicks, melodic soundscapes and Düsseldorf percussion all spiced up with hypnotic synths and mind blowing reverb. But the album also reveals other genre explorations like on the track “E”, a pure club hit evoking 90’s trance with a cutting edge à la KÖLSH, the more breakbeat oriented cut “T” and its ORBITAL-like addictive vocal melodic lines, the dark techno pearl “S” and its lush rolling bass lines reinforcing its overall somber atmosphere or yet “G” and its rough and hammering techno body assault evoking GESAFFELSTEIN and other TERENCE FIXMER.)

Röyksopp
http://royksopp.com
( ;D --> Named after a kind of fungi, Röyksopp was formed in 1998 by Norwegians Torbjörn Brundtland and Svein Berge who delivered a new kind of electronica with their debut album Melody A.M. in 2001. The sound was a big hit with the advertising world and tracks were co-opted for a variety of products including a Apple, an insurance group and broadcasters in the US and the UK. With their taste for experimentation extending to their videos, they won an MTV Europe award for "Remind Me" from their second album The Understanding. The band's skills as producers have been utilized with remixes for Beck, Coldplay and Peter Gabriel and they were invited to do a compilation album for the Back To Mine series in 2006.)

Sierra
https://soundcloud.com/je_suis_sierra
www.facebook.com/jesuissierra
( ;D --> Sierra has no desire to hide as she wanders through the valley in the shadow of the strange. Sierra’s self imposed exile has taken her through the winter desert, formerly Paris, on a quest. It has been far from straight forward: Land pirates, cannibals, the occult, and former virtual reality junkies desperate for their next hit, all lurk in even the furthest reaches of this vast waste land. Sierra, no matter how arduous this task, the force is too great to resist. To be master is something she cannot walk away from. Our post-apocalyptic world has ravaged life as we remember it, and only a few have the power to lead us to either the light or the dark. Which side is Sierra on? In a land set in a steampunk western, her intentions could go either way.)
