Clubroot
www.myspace.com/clubroot
( ;D --> Mysterious atmospheric dubstep soundscaper Clubroot taps into the same darkside as Burial, and Kode9, and the more atmospheric beatmakers. Clubroots first full length delivers expansive fields of swirling ambience, creeped out dronescapes and all manner of super evocative and gorgeously textural soundworlds. Where as most dubstep is super spare and stripped down, skeletal even, the sound here is lush and sprawling. Thick layers of synths whir and shimmer and buzz, deep swells throbbing and pulsing, everything hazy and gauzy and washed out, every song some sort of otherworldy dreamscape, shot through with some super bad ass bit of pounding churning dubstep stutter. The massive basslines and fluctuating synth buzz that usually adds texture to typical dubstep, here just becomes another element in Clubroot's mysterious mist shrouded sonic landscape.)

( ;D --> Ollie Jones had the good fortune to be working at the Big Apple record store when he first started making beats at age 15 and armed with a cracked copy of the Fruity Loops music-making software. Big Apple was at the center of the early development of U.K. garage's dark, half-speed offshoot dubstep before it was even called dubstep, and it was at Big Apple that Jones, who recorded as Skream, met fellow beatsmiths Benga and Hatcha. Hatcha was a DJ at the seminal club Forward and was only too happy to debut the dubplates of both Skream and Benga's early recordings. Their music took the tension and release formula of dance music, removed the release and layered in more tension instead. With slow and pounding basslines and wobbly treble they were creating a kind of music that summoned and summed up feelings of urban paranoia, but in an enjoyable way.)

From the opening haunting strings of "Tortured Soul," which calls to mind the work of Philip Glass or Aphex Twin, to the more optimistic chords and guitar of "Dutch Flowerz," to the heavy vocal cuts featuring Warrior Queen and JME, and the heavy digi-sounds of "Auto-Dub," it's clear that this is a sonic visionary at work.)

Rennie Foster

( ;D --> Rennie Foster has been a well respected figure in the Canadian music and art community since he was just a teenager. He influenced many as an early pioneer of the Hip-Hop / B-Boy movement and later the House Music and Techno / Rave scene with his relentless underground spirit and dedication to breaking ground with everything he puts his mind to whether he was making music for the local television network, judging the DMC Dj contest or fighting for the right to dance at City Hall. Rennie is very civic minded, a long time member of the Universal Zulu Nation and he has performed and produced music for various charitable causes such as Amnesty International. After visiting Japan several times to play, Rennie fell in love with the techno oriented Tokyo club scene and has since relocated to Tokyo where he now resides with his half- Japanese twin daughters, the main source of inspiration for this dedicated single father and full time sound pilot. Rennie has been making himself heard the last few years with a well received string of singles and remixes with labels such as Subject-Detroit, Rebirth, Teknotika, Monoid, Synewave, Communique, Rewired (Pure-Plastic), Soiree, F-Communications etc. His music is heavily supported by well known taste-makers such as Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Dave Clarke, Sasha, Dave Seaman, James Holden and too many more to name. Rennie’s tracks have been licensed for mix CDs by the likes of Kevin Saunderson, Trentmoller and Danny Tenaglia.)

Justus Köhncke
www.myspace.com/justuskoehncke
( ;D --> Extending his voracious musical appetite for all things avant-garde, pop, and dance into his own output, German producer Justus Köhncke has flirted with the charts, covered Janis Ian and Marvin Hamlisch, and has released material on the Kompakt label. Köhncke deliveres a future-balearic space disco trip with sparkles in the eyes, hands floating in the air, the body drifting to the vibe. Even the coldest season becomes summery hot with Justus’ heartrending melodies and synth sequences. He’s a likeable romantic, sometimes overemotional and euphoric, sometimes quite melancholic with beatless ambient pieces. Köhnke recalls long-forgotten spaced out disco.)

Meier, a former solo artist who also spent time with the group Fresh Colour, began collaborating with Blank in 1979, and the duo bowed with the single "I.T. Splash." After signing with the Residents' label, Ralph Records, Yello issued their 1980 debut LP, Solid Pleasure, which spawned the dance hit "Bostitch.")

This is the logical next chapter in Yello’s 30-year history, which has seen the electronic innovators pushing the limits of music video production since 1981, when they released "Pinball Cha Cha”, a suave figure-oriented video that was later included in the Museum of Modern Art's Music Video Exhibition.)

Plaid
www.plaid.co.uk
( ;D --> Plaid is a British electronic music duo comprising Andy Turner and Ed Handley, and based out of London. They are former members of The Black Dog and used many other names, such as Atypic (Andrew Turner) and Balil (Ed Handley), before settling on Plaid. They have collaborated with female singers Mara Carlyle, Nicolette and Björk. Although Plaid pre-existed the association, the duo's Ed Handley and Andy Turner spent most of their early recording years with Ken Downie as the dancefloor-confounding Black Dog Productions. Meshing well with Downie's vision of heavily hybridized post-techno and obscurantist thematics, the pair brought several nascent Plaid tracks to the Black Dog table on the group's debut, Bytes, a collection of tracks recorded by various iterations of the three members. The group recorded several albums and EPs throughout the early and mid-'90s, heley .
The pair split from Downie in 1995, and began rechanneling their efforts full-time with an EP on the neo-electro Clear label before signing to Warp. (The pair also recorded an album with European techno figure Mark Broom under the pseudonym Repeat. Both of Plaid's first two full-lengths, 1998's Not for Threes and the following year's Rest Proof Clockwork, were issued in the U.S. through Nothing. Once Warp set up a home on American shores, however, Plaid made the natural switch with the long-awaited collection Trainer, a retrospective including much of their early, pre-BDP work. The proper third album, Double Figure, followed in spring 2001, and the handy Plaid remix collection Parts in the Post was issued in 2003 by Peacefrog. The end of the year brought the duo's fourth proper LP, Spokes. Plaid was quiet on the recording front for several years, returning finally in mid-2006 with Greedy Baby, a mini-album that found the pair co-billed with visual artist Bob Jaroc.)
