Flavor of the week #19

Skinny Puppy

http://skinnypuppy.com
( ;D --> Drawing from the pioneering work of artists like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Suicide, the dark avant-industrial group Skinny Puppy formed in 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally a duo comprised of former Images in Vogue drummer cEvin Key (born Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre (aka Kevin Ogilvie), Skinny Puppy followed their debut cassette, Back and Forth, with the EP Remission, the first of many recordings with producer David "Rave" Ogilvie, in 1984. With a squsic uique sound of twisted, metaphorical lyrics combined with technoid madness, shock and terror aestethics with an dystopic, eerie feeling of hopelessness. Skinny Puppy are widely considered the founders of electro-industrial music; forming and cultivating the industrial sound that inspired bands such as Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM and Marilyn Manson.)

Anne Clark

www.anneclarkofficial.com
( ;D --> Anne Clark is largely known in Europe for her early-'80s material ("Sleeper in Metropolis", "Our darkness"), an unique mix of synth pop with despairing, poetic lyrics. Her electronica-based approach with neo-classical music. industrial, otherworldly environment. With droning, machine-like synths and icy vocals, building a claustrophobic but fascinating atmosphere. .)

Clubroot
www.myspace.com/clubroot
( ;D --> With the benefit of almost zero British press attention, Clubroot's self-titled debut CD gained quite a cult following last year. To sum up Clubroot s sound as succinctly as possible, it's like the perfect hybrid of Burial and Kryptic Minds, taking the mood driven atmospheres and quicksilver slink of Burial and alloying it to dynamic basslines and intricately produced rhythm structures. Clubroot has created a Cinematic ambiance for the new album, S/T (II MMX). The sounds is delicate married to its accompanying elements that it seems as if it was unearthed in complete form as opposed to constructed. It possesses some of the most pronounced and arresting basslines ever heard, delivered musically in a language as ethereal and intense as, say, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, or perhaps Muslimgauze, but couched in a language informed by the scene around dubstep and UK garage.)

Back to Light
BTB_amazon
( ;D --> When BOMB THE BASS released "Future Chaos? in late 2008, it had been nearly a decade in the making. Now, barely a year later, TIM SIMENON is back with a new album whose accomplished songwriting and sonic scope belie the spontaneity with which it came together. The title says it all: "Back to Light". The dusky atmosphere of Future Chaos has given way to a more radiant sound, buoyed by waves of synthesizers and propelled by clean-lined grooves. Raising the tempo, Simenon takes inspiration from classic techno, while vocal contributions from RICHARD DAVIS, KELLEY POLAR, THE BATTLE OF LAND AND SEA, and PAUL CONBOY bring Bomb the Bass into newfound melodic focus.)

Nicolas Bourbaki

( ;D --> Nicolas Bourbaki breaks down the music itself into its elements and builds it up again from the ground. Obscure sound textures are combined with grooves of archaic strength. However, these acoustic structures do not stay abstract, but you can feel them on the dancefloor.)
