Flavor of the week #22

Crystal Castles

www.crystalcastles.com
( ;D --> Crystal Castles music is easily recognized by their heavy use of samples and distorted female vocals. Crystal Castles does not in fact use a modified keyboard with an Atari 5200 sound chip as an oscillator, as it is frequently claimed. Their musical style has been described as having "ferocious, asphyxiating sheets of warped two-dimensional Gameboy glitches and bruising drum bombast pierce [the] skull with sheer shrill force, burrowing deep into the brain like a fever")
Crystal Castles ( II )

( ;D --> After all of the awful shit Crystal Castles did in the wake of their success, a whole lot of people hoped their new album would be terrible. Sorry, haters: 2010's Crystal Castles improves on their (also self-titled) debut in nearly every way. The latest from the Toronto-based electro duo is reminiscent of the jump forward taken by Deerhunter between Cryptograms and Microcastle, or Fuck Buttons from Street Horrrsing to Tarot Sport. Like those acts, Crystal Castles have reconciled with their detractors instead of running from them. By staying true to themselves, they've created a more focused, propulsive, and satisfying follow-up.)

GG_Beatport
( ;D --> Guy is certainly one of the hottest producers in the techno scene. Next to his promising production skills Guy Gerber is also a demanded live act with bookings in many countries that love his unique sound of bittersweet harmonies, natural mixture of strong and deep grooves and futuristic basslines.)
My Invisible Romance

( ;D --> "My Invisible Romance" is an intimate glance into the seemingly borderless music production world of Guy Gerber. Whilst showcasing Gerbers’ signature production style this release also surprises with its romantic elements. The inspiration for this release came from Guy’s regular performances and majority from the time spent on the road - as a guest artist in friends’ studios and from his work in "improvised studios".)

Phuture-primitive

www.phutureprimitive.com
( ;D --> Phutureprimitive is the refreshing musical creation of Oregon-based DJ/Producer, Rain. The Phutureprimitive sound is subterranean electronic tribalism, combining elements of organic downtempo, ethnic breaks, and sensual atmospherics. Ethereal vocals soar over dubbed-out basslines, and live percussion unfolds over odd time signatures creating a groove that is influenced by the synthetic textures of psychedelic trance as well as the kinetic grooves of world music.)

Hungry Lucy
www.myspace.com/hungrylucy
( ;D --> Ohio's goth-tinged trip-hop duo Hungry Lucy formed in 1998, when producer/multi-instrumentalist War-N Harrison needed a vocalist for a track he was doing for a Duran Duran tribute; after meeting and collaborating with singer/songwriter Christa Belle, they started writing original songs together.)
