( ;D --> In anticipation of their forthcoming full-length Burn The Land & Boil The Oceans, Principles Of Geometry invite Joakim, Krikor and Pilooski to remix three of the album's tracks. The French group has long plied an unusual fusion of Balearic disco and jittery, glitch-inspired tropes, and the press release promises that the album will "redefine what we thought IDM was." Here, though, EBM seems to be the more relevant acronym. Joakim's tape edit of "LA" opens with a regal, drawn-out synthesizer fanfare before settling into a chunky electro-disco groove; funky robot basslines and growling vocoders faintly recall a punkier Daft Punk, or even, given the live drumming, the Bay Area's original synth punk band, The Units. Pilooski's "ISM" edit uses similar sounds—spongy, pliant synthesizers and loud, loose rock drumming; the latter, panned hard to the left and draped in natural reverb, leaves you with the feeling of crouching in a corner of a practice space where one side of the room has been hung with moving blankets. It's a hypnotic, introverted grind of a track, worrying away at a minor-key arpeggio over a groove that can't decide whether it's D.C. go-go or motorik Krautrock. My favorite is Krikor's "Carbon Cowboy": the plodding 4/4 groove and minor-key bass arpeggio are as sinister as they are sensual, especially when paired with a hissing growl reminiscent of Skinny Puppy; a bridge straight out of Depeche Mode's Violator is the blood-colored icing on the cake.)

( ;D --> Kate Bush (born Catherine Bush on 30 July 1958 in Bexleyheath, Kent, now part of Greater London) is an English singer-songwriter known for her expressive three-octave voice, idiosyncratic and literary lyrics, and eclectic and meticulous musical and production style. Even from her earliest works, featuring piano as a primary instrument, Bush wove together many diverse influences, melding classical music, rock, and a wide range of ethnic and folk sources, producing a unique amalgam which has continued throughout her career. Later recordings have moved farther from a rock base, however, notably with the release of The Dreaming in 1982, where she experimented heavily with the then-new technology of sampling.)

From the first moments of its quiet opening piano chords and choir-boy vocal performed by her son, Bertie, she takes us on a journey deep into the heart of Winter in a series of seven songs, each of which revels in the contemplative and introspective, rather as if we're sitting with her by a fire while she sits at her piano musing on the nature of love, life, language, and the album's central theme, snow.)

Arbez played trombone as a child and young adult, but became fascinated with dance music when he heard Daft Punk in the mid-'90s. The music stands in the tradition of the past, but is characterized by a super-intense signature sound which is full of melancholy. The mysterious lyrics and the brilliant voice that seems to be absent and emotional at the same time add to the sinister mood of the tracks.
If you are only a little bit into Minimal Wave or Synthpop, you can't ignore Martial Canterel. And if you don't, this could be your entrance ticket into this musical territory!)

( ;D --> One of the founding fathers of synth pop, Gary Numan’s influence extends far beyond his lone American hit, “Cars,” which still stands as one of the defining new wave singles. That seminal track helped usher in the synthpop era on both sides of the Atlantic, especially his native England, where he was a genuine pop star and consistent hitmaker during the early ’80s. Even after new wave had petered out, Numan’s impact continued to make itself felt; his dark, paranoid vision, theatrically icy alien persona, and clinical, robotic sound were echoed strongly in the work of many goth rock and (especially) industrial artists to come.)

Kangding ray's music reflects his wide musical background, and a particular way of merging beats and textured soundscapes into slowly evolving compositions. KR combines machines with « real instruments » in a subtle and rythmic suite, integrating noises, walls of distortion, massive bass lines, voices and field recordings. The result is a blend of deep advanced grooves and dark atmospheres, that one could describe as « abstract bass music »)

Although both albums have been met with much critical acclaim, Burial remained anonymous until August 2008, stating in a past interview that “only five people know I make tunes”. In February 2008, The Independent reported that Burial was an alumnus of south London’s Elliott School named William Bevan (another alumnus, Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, said in 2006 that Burial was in the year above him). The school’s alumni also include Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet, with whom Bevan has collaborated.)
