There is a distinct deep space nine vibe in both the musical atmospheres and the chosen song titles, both reflecting a much darker vision of the future than the uplifting and exploratory vibe found on early records such as Hall of Mirrors. Still, the mission statement is clear and the execution is on point.)

Coming from the flourishing southern techno scene, the artist has developed a personal universe on the fringes of techno and minimal house on labels such as Modélisme, Mobilee, Plak or Correspondant. This sphere of activities takes us back to several legacies including, first of all, the original scene, which served as a big bang to electronic music in France. ( ;D --> Melancholia. Longing. It is difficult to speak about these moods or states of the mind without invoking stereotypes. In ancient medicine, melancholia was considered to be one of the four temperaments, matching the four humours. In fact, melancholia, meaning "black bile" in Ancient Greek, was thought to be caused by an excess of this very body substance. By contrast, in more modern interpretations, literates and Freudians relate many variations of longing to the one primordial longing, the desire to return to one's mother's womb. In this context, the womb is considered to be the place of absolute comfort and cosiness, of total bliss. Thus it should not be surprising that to many of us melancholia is a mood which we like to invoke and to maintain, we like to envelop ourselves in it like in a warm blanket. Our brain and our sensory systems appear to be made for perceiving and emotionally responding to music in a very immediate fashion. Consequently music is the obvious drug for all of us melancholia-addicts. However, there is a thin line between melancholia and sadness, and music which is meant to be melancholic too often crosses this line by far. Only very few artists succeed in avoiding this crossing, and in creating music which is melancholia in its most pure form. It is safe to say that BERSARIN QUARTETT - the electronic music project of Thomas Bücker - is one of them.)

( ;D --> You can learn a lot about Alec Empire from watching this video. That's his old band, Atari Teenage Riot, playing live amidst Berlin's May 1st "demonstrations" (read: riots) in 1999. If the German capital's music scene is a "historical accident," as Tobias Rapp once put it, then Empire is a quintessentially Berlin artist, a direct result of his city's unique history. The grandson of a radical leftist killed by the Nazis, Empire was born in West Berlin in the '70s. Every day on his way to school, he walked by The Wall, whose physical presence and political implications greatly colored his world view. Soon he was a radical leftist himself. Over the years he dabbled in both punk and rave, at one point making what he called "faceless DJ music" under the name LX Empire, though he found club culture indulgent and frustratingly apolitical. Ultimately, he'd combine both styles, forming a cacophony of breaks, noise and punk-inspired lyrics that would become his signature sound—"digital hardcore," as he called it.)

His association with older space music pioneers such as Steve Roach, Kevin Braheny, and Michael Stearns also makes him one of the few of that generation to have interfaced creatively with the new wave of experimental electronic composers.
A California native, Rich began experimenting with electronics in the late '70s before attending Stanford University, where he completed a degree in psychology. While at Stanford, Rich's involvement in the university's prestigious Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics expanded his interest in electronic composition, as well as bringing him in contact with a wide range of nontraditional, non-Western musical ideas. Rich's performance of several all-night "sleep concerts" during this period also helped solidify an aesthetic focus on psychoacoustics, perceptible in early recordings such as Geometry and Trances/Drones.)

( ;D --> Velvet Acid Christ had their origins in an 80's high school electronics class, where Bryan and Chris would debate the merits of Amiga versus Atari. Bryan and Grigory Bilham (an early member of VAC) were at the time working in a punk/funk band, which, by 1990, was altered to the trio of Bryan, Chris, and Grig. The band's name was originally Cyberchrist, although this was changed within a few months to Velvet Acid Christ, named (so they say) in honor of a bad acid trip. Grig left the band in 1992, leaving the core of Bryan and Chris (although various other people have had revolving door membership in the band). Bryan and Chris cite a number of influences to their hard driving industrial sound, including Legendary Pink Dots, the Cure, Skinny Puppy, Orbital, and a surprising number of metal bands, including Napalm Death, Godflesh, and Metallica. They also expose a number of social issues, including animal rights and their concern regarding the basic survival of mankind against the onslaught of technoloy. VACs masterpiece and most recent full-length CD release Lust For Blood is possibly VACs most complete and diverse album in the past ten years. Lust For Blood is an aggressive return for one of electronic music’s most prolific artists. Angry and other times haunting vocals are forged to incessant beats, permeating melodies, and relentless bass lines. As an homage to early electronic music, guitars are once again introduced into the mix of patches, pads and circuits.)

Shortly after the foundation of Haus Arafna in the early 'nineties, Mr. and Mrs. Arafna felt the need to breath life into a further project. This would be where ideas that didn't fit directly into the original concept envisaged for Haus Arafna could find their place. Their youthful innocence prevented them from realising in truth how difficult it would be to differentiate between two musical identities. They appear however to have found a way: despite the natural dividing lines between the two projects, and how should one to deal with both the electronic and the compositorial aspects, November Növelet developed over time and crystallised into an Angst Pop with a tendency to Electro New Wave and so Haus Arafna could carefully deal with the industrial origins of Angst Pop.)
